Dental braces :
Dental braces are devices used to correct misaligned teeth and jaws. They consist of brackets that are attached to the teeth, and an archwire that runs through the brackets and is held in place by tiny rubber bands called ligatures. Over time, the pressure from the archwire moves the teeth into the proper position.
Braces can be made from metal, ceramic, or plastic materials and are typically worn for 12 to 24 months, depending on the severity of the misalignment. During treatment, patients may need to visit the orthodontist every four to six weeks to have the braces adjusted.
In addition to traditional braces, there are other orthodontic treatments available, such as clear aligners (e.g. Invisalign), lingual braces (which are hidden behind the teeth), and self-ligating braces (which use a specialized clip instead of elastic bands).
If you are considering braces, it’s important to consult with an orthodontist to determine the best treatment option for your needs and goals.
